Mitchell directs All Star High School Jazz Ensemble for a Residency at the Vancouver Jazz Festival June 20-29

For her third consecutive year, Nicole Mitchell is leading Vancouver Jazz Festival's High School Jazz Intensive. The Ensemble is made up of some of the most talented high school musicians from British Columbia.

NEW HAVEN, CT -- Firehouse 12 Records will kick off its 2008 release schedule on April 29th with Xenogenesis Suite: A Tribute to Octavia Butler (FH12-04-01-006), the new studio recording of Chicago-based flutist/composer Nicole Mitchell's extended composition of the same name.

Black Earth Strings does Children's Tour in Evanston

Black Earth Strings will be playing 24 performances at all the elementary schools in Evanston from Nov 5 to Nov 16.

Mitchell "Rising Star Jazz Flutist" in Downbeat Critics Poll 2007

In the August 2007 issue of Downbeat Magazine, Nicole Mitchell has placed #1 in the Rising Star Flutist category. This is her third year to carry the title.

Nicole Mitchell’s Black Earth Ensemble celebrates the CD release of her sci-fi inspired “Xenogenesis Suite: A Tribute to Octavia Butler” (Firehouse 12) with a Multi-Arts Performance/Exhibition featuring Margaret Morris (solo dance), Krista Franklin (visual art) and Floyd Webb (experimental video).

Nicole Mitchell is a finalist for two Jazz Journalist Association Awards 2008

Mitchell has been nominated for both the "flutist of the year" and "up and coming artist of the year" by the Jazz Journalist Association. The Jazz Journalists Association's 12 annual celebration of excellence in jazz and jazz journalism, are hereby announced.

Performances for May 11 and May 12: Chicago Sinfonietta and CUBE

Nicole Mitchell will perform with the Chicago Sinfonietta on May 11 at Dominican University and then as a featured performer with the CUBE Ensemble at Roosevelt University. On May 12, she will play with the Sinfonietta at Symphony Center. Please see the performances page for more details.

April 17th Nicole Mitchell Quartet and April 18th Mitchell with Carthage College Jazz Ensemble

On April 17th, the Nicole MItchell Quartet with Josh Abrams bass, Jason Adesievietz vibes and Marcus Evans drums will play at the Viaduct Theater, and on April 18th Mitchell will feature her compositions and her flute playing with the Carthage College Jazz Ensemble in Kenosha, Led by David Ness.
