For her third consecutive year, Nicole Mitchell is leading Vancouver Jazz Festival's High School Jazz Intensive. The Ensemble is made up of some of the most talented high school musicians from British Columbia.
"If this is the future of jazz in Vancouver, we're going to be just fine." --Georgia Straight
Designed to connect talented high-school-student musicians together with an internationally acclaimed artist for a rigorous nine-day residency, the High School Jazz Intensive offers a rare opportunity for students to explore new techniques, develop new works, and investigate new perspectives under the tutelage of a jazz master. This year the band—comprising a select group of high-school students from the Lower Mainland who successfully auditioned for the program—will be led by artist-in-residence, flutist, composer, educator, and conductor Nicole Mitchell.
